Questions and answers
Questions we get asked before the first site visit.
Pricing, timelines, permits, living through the work, and what happens once we have gone. If yours is not answered here, call and ask.

Most of these come up in the first ten minutes.
We would rather you arrive at the site visit already knowing how we work, so the conversation can be about your house instead of our paperwork.
If a question here does not quite match your situation, that is usually a sign the answer is specific to your property. Call and describe it.
Pricing is based on the scope of work, and we walk you through the numbers so you understand exactly what you are paying for. There is no lump sum with no breakdown behind it. Where part of the work is genuinely unknown, such as what sits behind a wall we have not opened, that portion carries a defined allowance rather than an optimistic guess, so the uncertainty has a number attached from the start.
It depends on the size of the job, but you get an accurate expectation before anything begins rather than a hopeful one. A kitchen is typically eight to twelve weeks from demolition. A whole floor renovation runs four to eight months. A new coastal build is usually ten to eighteen months from permit. Permitting itself can add three to six months before construction starts if wetlands or coastal review is involved.
A clear scope of work, an accurate budget, an accurate timeline, and a straightforward plan for how we handle the curveballs that every renovation eventually produces. You will also receive a selections schedule listing every item we need you to choose and the date we need it by, working backwards from when it has to be on site.
We match our updates to what you prefer. Some clients want a message every evening, others want a summary once a week. Either works, and we agree it before we start instead of guessing. Updates come through our construction software so there is a written record, and we back that up with email.
We talk it through straight away so you understand the cost and the schedule impact before anything is done. Changes are normal and we are not precious about them. What we will not do is carry out extra work and present the cost afterwards. No surprises and no quiet add-ons.
Yes. We file the applications, attend the hearings, and schedule the inspections, working directly with the town. That includes building and zoning, and where the property requires it, inland wetlands and coastal site plan review. You do not become an expert in your own municipality's application calendar.
We take it seriously, because you still have to live there. The crew is respectful, the construction zone is sealed with temporary partitions and dust control, floors and finishes outside the zone are protected, and the site is cleaned down at the end of every day. The property is secured before anyone leaves.
Yes. We offer financing through Acorn, with a clickable link included on all invoices. It is a straightforward option for homeowners who would rather spread a project over a longer horizon than draw it out of savings at once.
Almost always, and we prefer to be involved during design rather than handed a completed set. Early involvement lets us price real assemblies and flag details that will be difficult or costly to build before they are drawn in. If you do not have a designer yet, we can recommend several who work regularly on this coast.
Yes. Driveways and paving, and commercial painting, are two of the seven categories we work in, and they are run by the same company under the same contract terms. Plenty of clients come to us for one and end up using us for both, which is usually simpler than coordinating two contractors around one site.
Renovations generally start around seventy five thousand dollars, and new builds around six hundred thousand. Below that we are usually not the most sensible choice and we will say so honestly and suggest someone better suited, rather than taking the job and squeezing it around larger work.
Yes. CMG Construction is a licensed new home builder and registered home improvement contractor in Connecticut, and we carry general liability and workers compensation coverage. Certificates are available on request and are issued with every contract.
We stand by our work. Houses settle and timber moves through its first heating season, so a door that closed perfectly in July can stick in January. Call the same number and we will come back and sort it. That is normal, expected, and included.
